Welcome to Stockport's collection of Grassland & Farmland Birds

Oenanthe oenanthe

The wheatears are passerine birds of the genus Oenanthe. Jason Skeen captured this fine sample whilst out for a stroll in Marple.

(Hirundo rustica)

This swiftly darting bird can be seen often in parts of stockport. However taking a photo can be quite hard. This was provided by Caroline Roberts in Cheadle.

Pied Wagtail

This specimen was captured at St Mary's Church in the Stockport market by Kieran Kilroy.

Northern Lapwing

 (Vanellus vanellus)

The northern lapwing is also known as the peewit & another visit to Reddish Vale got Kenneth Moult this fine specimen.

Sand Martin

(Riparia riparia)

Normally these birds nest in sandy banks but these two thought the mill at Etherow Country Park would do better. Thanks to Eddie Cooke for the photo.

Common Peacock

The Indian peafowl or peacock (Pavo cristatus), a large and brightly coloured bird, is a species of peafowl native to South Asia, but introduced in many other parts of the world. This lovely example was provided by Eddie Cooke at Roman Lakes Leisure Park.
